Vanessa had one talent.
She was lazy. She was dishonest. She was selfish and greedy. And she had never worked a day in her life.
In fact, she wasn't much good at anything, except scheming.
In high school, she had been awarded a settlement after successfully suing her school district for 'emotional distress' because she had found her homework too difficult.
Her subsequent years were spent in an increasingly lavish lifestyle, supported by ever-more elaborate and ridiculous (yet successful) lawsuits. Catered parties, vacations, cruise ship buffets, hotel room service all eventually caught up with her. Vanessa stood in front of the mirror, and instead of feeling ashamed or even regretful to have allowed herself to grow to such a size, she tried to figure out a way to shift the blame. Of course! She would sue the very company whose food had made her fat! She helped herself to an ice cream - after all, she would have to get in character.
The lawsuit never even went to trial. A shrewd and perceptive lawyer representing the ubiquitous candy and dessert corporation brought forward an unusual settlement proposal, and Vanessa's greed wouldn't allow her to turn down the offer: a token monetary settlement and an offer of free ice cream for life.
She would have to look elsewhere for her next huge payout, but for now, at least she had dessert.
